Wiang Lo Ancient City, Phayao — A 1,500-Year-Old Historic Town
Wiang Lo, located in Lo Subdistrict, Chun District, was once a major frontier city of the Phu Kam Yao Kingdom, dating back around 1,500–1,600 years. Evidence from stone inscriptions and sandstone Buddha images found in the area supports its long history. In 1981, villagers also discovered a bronze figure resembling a warrior, believed to represent “Phaya Lo,” inspiring the community to create a revered statue in his honor.
The “Three Brothers Ubosot” is built in classic Lanna architectural style, but with a unique orientation—it faces south instead of east like most ubosots. This direction is tied to Lanna beliefs that it helps guard the city from misfortune. Inside sits the revered “Three Brothers Buddha Images,” a spiritual symbol of the local community.Phra Chao Tong, also known as “Luang Pho Lo,” is an important bronze Buddha image of Phayao, crafted in the Chiang Saen Singha III style. The statue has a lap width of 78 cm and a height of 110 cm. It was originally enshrined at Wat Sriping Muang but was stolen in 1988 and disappeared for over 30 years. In August 2024, a Buddha image with matching artistic features surfaced at an auction house in Europe, allowing the Fine Arts Department to negotiate and successfully return it to Thailand.

Sitting high on Khao Kaew Hill within Wat Yansangwararam, the Phra Maha Mondop Phutthabat Phor Por Ror and Sor Kor ( The Royal Pavilion housing the Buddha’s Footprint ) is a serene and sacred spot dedicated to King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit.
Inside lies a beautifully crafted replica of the Buddha’s footprint, while the hilltop offers breathtaking views after a climb of around 200 steps.
It’s a place where peace, devotion, and beauty come together. 😊😊😊

ภายในประดิษฐานรอยพระพุทธบาทจำลองอันงดงามประณีต

เบื้องบนยอดเขา เมื่อก้าวผ่านบันไดราว 200 ขั้น จะได้พบกับวิวทิวทัศน์อันงดงามจับใจ
สถานที่แห่งนี้คือจุดที่ “ความสงบ ศรัทธา และความงดงาม” มาบรรจบกันอย่างลงตัว 😊😊😊
