Monsoon Tea’s unique focus lies on making exceptional wild and free-grown tea from the hills of northern Thailand, using traditional and sustainable cultivation methods. Our mission is to make these distinctively aromatic teas accessible to everyone while conserving the environment and its biodiversity. All of our teas come from the original undomesticated Camellia Sinensis Assamica plant indigenous to the Thai highlands. It is an extremely rare tea used in less than one percent of tea cultivation worldwide. Characterized by a deep and naturally malty flavour, its rich taste stems from growing in harmony with diverse native plants and herbs in its natural habitat. This non-invasive cultivation method prevents deforestation and is one of the most sustainable ways of planting tea. This method is unique to northern Thailand and has been practiced for generations. By maintaining the way Thai tea farmers have been planting and harvesting tea, Monsoon Tea is preserving age-old growing traditions. We let the tea thrive naturally with minimal human involvement. It is organically grown and free from herbicides and pesticides. We select only the best wild and free-grown teas to be savoured in pure or flavoured form. Enjoy the deep and full taste of our pure teas, or revel in one of our exciting house blends which are enhanced with natural and locally inspired fruit, flower and spice fragrances. At Monsoon Tea we strive to produce the world’s most sustainable tea, grown in harmony with nature without the use of pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation systems.

All our teas come from the mountains of Northern Thailand, where we have worked hard for more than a decade to grow this way of working together with local communities. Many of our collaborators are small scale producers who live right by the source, not operating large industrial production facilities. This makes it difficult and expensive to obtain various certification labels and we have therefore decided to not go in that direction and instead put of time, money, and effort into growing tea as sustainably as we possibly can and feel proud of 🌳

Earlier this year we finally launched our new tea bag boxes and the response has been overwhelmingly positive in our stores so far 💚

While we still recommend using tea pots and strainers for our loose leaf teas we know that many of our customers prefer tea bags for their ease of use, and if people will continue enjoying tea bags they might as well enjoy Forest Friendly Tea in them! Our enveloped tea bags and sachets contain the exact same high quality tea as our normal tins and bags and so far we’ve introduced these boxes for 15 of our bestselling teas. All available in stores, online and wholesale for business partners 🙌

Yesterday we broke the sales record for an individual day at our tea shop in One Nimman here in Chiang Mai 🎉🎉🎉

In the past couple of months we have put a lot of effort in renovating the shop, updating products and creating a more interesting, fun and inviting shopping experience for our customers. Now we’re seeing the results!

The more tea we sell, the more we can buy from our partner communities dedicated to preserving nature through our concept of Forest Friendly Tea.

Each of these sales milestones are therefore a reason to be celebrated as they have a direct impact on both people and biodiversity in the mountains of Northern Thailand 💚🌳🇹🇭

Tea from a world beyond 🌳

All our teas come from the mountains of Northern Thailand, grown in collaboration with remotely located communities on what sometimes feel like the edge of the world. Several communities are still only accessible via dirt roads, sometimes cut off from civilisation during severe landslides in the monsoon season.

Our mission is to provide these communities with economic opportunities to protect biodiversity through tea, celebrating their lifestyle and knowledge of the local surroundings. We don’t own any production land ourselves but travel far and wide across these mountains to work with the people at the source. Thank you all for continuing to enjoy our teas making this work possible 💚🌳
