Turn your favorite Ka-Soh fish soup into a zesty Tom Yum Nam Sai (Clear Tom Yum)! 🌶️🍋

Not only is the base packed with protein, collagen, and calcium, but giving it a Thai twist is surprisingly easy.

How to make it:

* Simmer Ka-Soh’s fish soup base with lemongrass, shallots, kaffir lime leaves, chilli padi, and lime until the fragrant oils release.

* Toss in your favorite veggies and protein.
* Boil until cooked and enjoy!

Has it already been a year?

It’s a strange feeling, knowing it has been a full year since we closed our last doors, yet the memories remain as fresh as yesterday.

Looking back, it’s easy to wonder if things could have gone differently. There are moments I carry the weight of feeling like I failed, even when the circumstances were entirely out of our hands.

In 2020, the pandemic delivered the perfect storm that forced us to close our main restaurant on Amoy Street.

Then 2025 brought an entirely new slew of pressures: dwindling footfall in Greenwood, relentless cost increases across ingredients, utilities, and staffing, compounded by a potential rent hike that would have broken us overnight.

Closing the final location was the hardest, yet most logical, decision to make.

What can never be taken away, however, are the lifetime of memories I have growing up with not just our restaurants, but this brand and everything it represents. 86 years of history leaves a mark that doesn’t fade easily.

Now, in 2026, we are looking forward. This year has brought a space to reflect, and more importantly, an opportunity to rebuild the brand from the ground up.

It’s a chance to do things differently, honor our roots, and write the next chapter.

Hopefully, I’ll have some exciting news to share with you all in due time.

Thank you to everyone who has stood by us. Here’s to the journey ahead.

Donation to National Heritage Board is complete.

Never expected to feel slightly emotional handing over the items for conservation, but at the same time, i’m heartened that my family’s name and the restaurant has a place in Singapore’s history.

If you forgot to defrost/thaw the frozen soup packs before using it, no problem!

This method can be used to heat up the soup from a frozen block and prevents water loss.

Step 1:

Dislodge the ice block from the packet by using a water bath or put under running water.

Step 2:

Using the small fire or low heat, defrost the block of soup in a pot.

Remove excess oil that floats up

Step 3:

Once most of the ice has melted, turn up the heat to medium/high

Step 4:

Continue heating until rolling boil.

This step would be inoortant to bind the nutrients in the soup to maintain the milkiness and texture of the soup.

Add in desired levels of seasoning.

Done!!✅

I really admire content creators that can multitask in doing something while speaking on a topic.

Which is also why you will rarely see me filming content while actively driving.

As you can see the task i’m doing is already very simple (just pasting labels) and the topic is also a superficial one without any deep meaning, and i already cannot do both tasks at the same time!

A prawn affair.

I provided a basic recipe to do a prawn soup but K Z zhnged it up by adding fried garlic, egg tofu, seaweed and goji berries.

Soup base is of course from our signature fish soup base!

Donating a piece of history to the museum. Last year i was approached by National Heritage Board to see if i would be interested in donating items relating to the restaurant and i agreed, and put forth some items for their considerations.

Happy to share that the donation has been approved and these items would be donated.

The watercolor painting was commissioned by my dad (Mr Tang Tat Cheong) and it is a painting during the day where Swee Kee was located at Chin Chew Street. The street is now defunct since the government redeveloped the area in 1996/97.

The two metal chains are antiques, they are coin belts worn by my grand father (Tang Kwong Swee). I remember my grand father wearing them daily with his attire.

I’m happy that these pieces will be going to somewhere where the stories and history behind these pieces will be shared for years to come.
