🍷 Wine of the Week #4
Rosa Trilli – Gazzetta
Bolsena – Italy
Rosato: Sangiovese (red) and Procanico (white)
Natural Wine and Organic Farming. 12,5% Alcohol.
Rosa Trilli hasn’t been an easy wine to define: definitely a pleasure to drink, but also a wine that tries — and succeeds — to defy those categorizations that are so dear to the traditional wine world.
Rosa Trilli is anarchy in wine.
Not that the producer, Trish, seems particularly interested in advocating for the wine industry’s most traditional production methods, or for the agricultural exploitation of land and cultures. Her vines are trained organically and sustainably, with minimal intervention in the making of this nectar. And you don’t need greenwashing logos to understand it. You can see it, smell it, and taste it.
And with that said, let’s start the tasting.
SIGHT: The anarchism of this wine starts from the very beginning. It is marketed as a rosato — the Italian equivalent of the French rosé — yet it pours a hazy ruby-red, almost amaranth-red, slow in the glass and clearly minimally filtered. An alive natural wine from the very first glance.
NOSE: While the visual analysis immediately tells you about its natural soul, the nose partially contradicts it. Forget the mushy hyper-funkiness of certain natural wines. Medium intensity, followed by an explosion of macerated fruits: strawberry, cherry, and blood orange.
TASTE: In the mouth it shows good freshness and gentle tannins, with an unexpected sapidity and hints of minerality. The palate confirms the fermented cherry notes perceived on the nose and closes with a light lemon-zest bitterness.
A wine outside the schemes, outside the ratings, and outside the idea that there is only one “correct” way to make wine. Rosa Trilli is freedom, earth, and personality in a glass.
Models: and from Australia! A lovely couple who brightened our evening with their company. Enjoy your stay in Uppsala, and thank you for stopping by Taps Wine!
