In the very heart of Stockholm lies Café Sten Sture, a place filled with dramatic history. These medieval vaults once served as prison cells. Here, Jacob Johan Anckarström was held after shooting King Gustav III at the masquerade at the Royal Opera in 1792.
Anckarström confessed to the crime and was sentenced to whipping and later executed in April that same year. The King died two weeks after the attack from blood poisoning.
Today, the dark history has turned into cozy charm — visitors can enjoy coffee and food in the same vaults where one of Sweden’s most infamous assassins once awaited his fate. http://Historiskavingslag.se
