Kungsholmen doesn't announce itself the way Gamla Stan does. It's an island, technically, but it feels more like a neighbourhood that happens to be surrounded by water: apartment blocks, bakeries, people walking dogs along Norr Mälarstrand on their way to nowhere in particular.

The City Hall sits at the eastern tip of it, and most visitors arrive by the front entrance, take the tower, and leave. The arcade around the Borgargården courtyard is the part worth slowing down for. Red granite columns, brick vaults overhead, and a view out toward Riddarfjärden through the openings. It's open to walk through, and outside the tour groups it's usually close to empty.

From there the rest of the island is a straightforward walk. Follow the water west along Norr Mälarstrand and you get an hour of shoreline, benches, and swimming spots in summer. Turn north instead and Hantverkargatan takes you into the everyday version of Kungsholmen, where the cafés are for people who live there. Rålambshovsparken at the far end is where the whole neighbourhood ends up on a warm evening.

Stockholm has been doing this properly for a long time.

Our favorite views in Stockholm right now, the sun dropping behind Stadshuset, Riddarholm's spire catching the last light, and the whole city glowing orange over the water.

But it's not just the view that's new here. Slussen has quietly become one of the most exciting food destinations in the city. After years of construction, the area connecting Södermalm to Gamla Stan has transformed into a proper dining neighborhood and it's absolutely worth the trip.

A few spots to put on your list:

🥐 Brasserie Lou Lou, a French bistro tucked into Katarinahuset, right by Slussen. Think white linen, garlic butter, steak frites, and an art deco interior that makes you forget you're in Sweden.

🥘 Villa Valentina, one of Stockholm's biggest new openings, nearly 1,000 sqm across the new Mälarterrassen. Andalusian flavors, sweeping water views, and an energy that keeps the night going longer than planned.

🛶 Straight off the dock and into the water

There's nothing quite like launching a sea kayak straight off our dock into Ulvsundasjön. One paddle stroke and you're gliding past the marina, past the houseboats, past the sailboats moored along the shore and suddenly the city noise is gone, replaced by the sound of water against the hull.

This is what a normal afternoon looks like at Pampas Marina. No traffic, no rush just clear water, good gear, and a route that takes you straight toward the Kungsholmen loop or wherever the day takes you.

Whether you're a first-timer figuring out how to get in and out of a kayak without tipping over, or a regular who knows the marina like the back of your hand, our dock is the easiest launch point in central Stockholm. Grab a paddle, grab a PFD, and we'll walk you through the basics before you push off.
