Tempix has been selected and funded for the phase 1 SME instrument grant in the EC Horizon 2020 Program. This is good, liberating news and an enormous opportunity for Tempix. Our ambition is to improve the accessibility to Tempix smart label solutions.
Tempix labels can be placed on every single food product to track the ambient temperature. We aim to build true trust in the cold chains so that food consumers in Europe get the freshness they are paying for. Longer shelf life in the stores and longer fridge life in the homes are the big wins with the Tempix system.
Why are the expiry dates on many of the food products set 30% too short? How much food will be consumed if the expiry dates are set 1, 2 or 5 days longer? The expiry date setting depends on the products sensitivity and the producers confidence in the existing cold chains. Over 50% of the total food waste is caused in the consumers homes. It is done by ourselves when we are making the decision at home wheather to consume or throw the food package in the waste bin. Mostly because the expiry dates are due. Let’s change this. Let’s start reducing food waste by requiring longer expiry dates. This will be enabled by the new technology that is already available on the market.
