A little note from us ☕️
Every summer we welcome thousands of wonderful people through our little café. Most of you are incredibly respectful, kind and understanding. Thank you for that. ❤️
Coffee & Waves is, first and foremost, a dining restaurant.
We may have a surfboard or two in, but we’re not a beach bar - and we’re not even that close to the beach! We’re about a 500m walk away. We kindly ask you to arrive dressed appropriately (no swimwear or shirtless). Yes it’s hot, we are hot too but working with clothes on.
The same goes for outside food. Our kitchen works incredibly hard to develop every recipe, source quality ingredients, support local suppliers and prepare everything fresh every single day. With only a handful of tables, we simply can’t provide restaurant seating for food purchased elsewhere. We hope you understand that every occupied seat is what allows our small business to survive.
Our laptop policy often raises questions too. It is not for those answering an email over coffee, but it’s for those occupying a table for hours after a single order. In a café with very limited seating, that’s simply not sustainable.
And finally, takeaway cups. We use biodegradable vegware because we’re trying to minimise waste. Selling takeaway while also allowing takeaway cups to be consumed inside means we absorb the higher packaging cost without the benefit of tableware - and as a small independent café, those margins matter. So it’s a simple choice: dine in or take away. If you can’t finish your drink, we’ll always be happy to transfer it into a takeaway cup for you.
None of these rules were created to make anyone feel unwelcome.
They exist to protect a tiny café with limited seating, support our team, and allow us to keep serving the quality that brought so many of you through our doors in the first place.
Thank you! 🙏 let’s drink good coffee.
