The shop is still relatively new but Katie has been selling her product through her social media in Lagos since early summer 2020. Once this perfect location became available there was really no other business that could have filled this space better.

‘I love it here (Lagos), it’s my home, I just wouldn’t go anywhere else. It’s very international here, everyone is super friendly, relaxed, inviting and it’s just a very comfortable place. Most people that come here love it and never want to leave and I was definitely one of those people.’’

opened in February of this year by Katie Pomeroy The store itself is a joint business concept with Illicit Burgers run by Katies partner Kevin, but more on that later. Anyone who knows her knows how much she cares about the environment and sustainability and it shows in the business structure too.

‘I love to focus a bit more on the environment in general. I could set up a small business here and keep it as sustainable as possible even stuff like committing to being carbon neutral by 2030 and we’ve got different avenues like using , making sure all our packaging is as eco friendly as possible, any way that we can, any avenue I can take, I’ve done that. It makes me feel better about running a business and also to try and educate locals and even tourists as well to try and be a bit friendlier to the environment.’’

Bagels for brunch today anyone? One of Lagos’ little gems is ready to satisfy all your doughy dreams. What started as a simple concept where everything was made and sold from home is now a successful store with the options of choosing your prefered bread type and either having them filled for a hearty meal or keeping it plain to take home.

‘I got into this because no one makes bagels here so it was a niche product that everyone was interested in buying.’’
