Why FORTH?
Every story starts with an idea.
Two couples. Four people. One island. And one shared dream - to create a coffee shop of our own.
We met here, on Madeira, and quickly discovered that we shared the same passion for coffee, hospitality and the idea of creating something new for the island.
For us, coffee is more than a drink. It’s a craft, a culture and a way to connect with people. We wanted to share our experience, introduce new flavours and show that there is always another side to coffee - with more character, passion and attention to detail.
From the very beginning, our goal has been simple: to create a place where quality comes first. We carefully choose every ingredient, focus on every detail of our products, and create a warm, genuine experience for every guest who walks through our doors.
That’s how FORTH was born.
The name carries two meanings.
FORTH is an adverb that means moving forward - through time, place, or order. It also describes something coming into view, emerging, and taking its place in the world.
And it is sounds like Force - the drive, determination and energy to create, grow and keep moving forward.
And Four - because there are four of us behind this idea.
Young, ambitious and curious, we came to Madeira with a dream - and decided to build it together.
