MY HONEST TAKE ON THE ISSUE OF โOVERPRICEโ IN SAGADA
Iโve read the recent discussion about the so-called โoverpriceโ of Sagada food, and honestly, Iโm expecting that in the coming days, similar concerns may be raised about guides, accommodations, shuttles, grocery items, vegetables, and more.
Your comments may be true from your point of viewโand we take them as a compliment, a reminder that these are things we must continue to look into. Constructive feedback helps us improve, and we appreciate that.
But hereโs a gentle reminder for those who plan to visit Sagada:
1. Do your research before visiting.
Before coming here, please check the costsโtourist sites, restaurants, accommodations, and shuttle or guide fees. Look for places and activities that match your budget.
2. Accommodations vary for a reason.
Different lodging places offer different prices because they also provide different amenities, views, locations, and room types. Choose one that fits both your needs and your budget.
3. Restaurants differ in pricing and serving size.
Check menus or visit restaurantsโ pages or websites for photos, prices, reviews, and serving sizes. Ask the staff how big their servings areโthis helps manage expectations.
And if you still find the prices higher than what you're used to, you may bring your own food or choose accommodations with a kitchen where you can cook your own meals.
4. Tourist sites and activities have standard fees.
Visit the Tourism Office, guide offices, local operators, local agencies, or even ask your accommodation staff about standard shuttle fees, guide fees, and other charges.
If the costs feel heavy, donโt hesitate to request payment sharing by joining another group. This can significantly reduce expenses.
5. For dry goods, grocery items, and daily necessities:
Prices may be slightly higher compared to big cities, and hereโs why:
We donโt have supermarkets or major chains offering discounted prices.
Store owners travel long hours to the city to purchase goodsโand fuel prices continue to rise.
Some store owners order through suppliers, making them third-party buyersโnaturally affecting the price.
NOTE:
These factors also contribute to the pricing of restaurant food and accommodations. Most establishments buy their ingredients, supplies, and other amenities from our local storesโso when local prices increase due to logistics and transportation costs, it naturally affects the cost of services offered to tourists.
Option: Bring the items you need for traveling so you donโt need to buy them here.
Sagada welcomes everyoneโbut like any travel destination, planning ahead helps ensure a smoother, more enjoyable, and more budget-friendly experience for all.
