READ | Where others have only tried, Iligan has already succeeded.
A lot of universities have tried but it is our very own MSU IIT Professor and JCI Iligan member, Dr. Sherwin Guirnaldo, who has successfully built a working prototype for a low-cost and easy to build ventilator in the hopes of providing affordable breathing apparatus to hospital ICUs and COVID-19 facilities.
This ventilator prototype is set apart from the rest because it is...
โข Affordable (costs of materials is only around 50k while premium ventilators are marketed in millions of pesos)
โข Easy to make (Made at the MSU IIT Campus Lab)
โข M.D. Approved (Local Doctors attest to its capabilities)
โข DOST Compliant
Specs required by DOST (All complied with):
a. Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation Mode
b. Accurate Tidal Volume Control
c. Inspiration Expiration Control
d. Respiratory Rate Control
e. End of Inspiration Hold Control
f. Assist Control Mode
g. Assist Contol Sensitivity
h. FiO2 can be varied consistently
j. Alarm: Power failure, over-pressure, leakage
Upon clinical use, this device would reduce the workload and demand for conventional mechanical ventilators in our ICUs. It can also be deployed in rural areas or hinterlands and become a lifeline for those who cannot breathe on their own while waiting for rescue transportation.
MOSEV, as it is called, means MSU IIT Open Source Easy Ventilator. Why easy? Because it is easy to build and easy to use!
It's time for Mindanao to shine! Our island has the best and brightest working and helping in the fight against COVID-19. Let us support this Mindanaoan innovation that could save a lot of lives!
