Running 528 Ilawod is a blessing. But it is also hard.
Behind every cup is a long list of decisions people rarely see : rising ingredient costs, tight margins, utilities, rent, equipment maintenance, logistics, wages, and the everyday challenge of keeping quality consistent.
And when you run a cafe in the province, those challenges can multiply. Supply chains are longer. Good ingredients cost more to bring in. Equipment support isn’t always nearby. Economic pressures hit communities differently, and every adjustment has to be made carefully.
Then comes the balancing act: How do you keep quality high without cutting corners? How do you make sure your team, who carry the heart of the cafe are compensated fairly and with dignity? How do you continue creating a space that serves not just coffee, but community?
It isn’t easy.
There are days when the numbers are heavy. Days when the uncertainty feels louder.
But if there’s one thing that keeps us going, it’s this: the tribe that continues to show up.
To our 528 Ilawod community—thank you. For every cup shared, every conversation held within our walls, every quiet act of choosing local.
This journey is not without its challenges, but it is made lighter because of you.
And in the middle of trying times, we keep returning to our core: to beba place for professional and individual growth, to create dignified work, and to give back to the community that first gave us a place to belong.

1. Huwag po hanapin ang paborito nyong barista kapag wala, huwag ding tanungin kung bakit pumasok kapag nariyan.
2. Huwag po pag tataasan ng boses ang mga barista, hindi nyo po sila pinalalamon.
3. Ugaliin pong kumustahin ang mga barista.

The recent crisis challenged our usual ways of responding to disasters in our community. It wasn’t as straightforward as before, and at times we had to pause and rethink how we could help best.
But even in that, God has been good. He connected us with people and an organization that share the same belief : that a good, thoughtfully prepared meal can uplift, restore dignity, and bring hope in difficult moments.
And to the faceless and often thankless heroes, those who quietly give their time, resources, and even their youth in service of others.. thank you. You remind us what it truly means to care.
