What Is Chicken Pastil?
Chicken pastil is a seasoned shredded chicken ulam meal commonly eaten as street food in the southern Philippines.

The chicken is usually steamed or boiled. Since the usual chicken pastil includes rice, this recipe takes advantage of the rice cooker many Pinoy households have to make flavorful chicken rice while also cooking the chicken. Using the rice cooker eliminates the need to cook two separate things and makes this a dorm-friendly meal, too – perfect for students who may want to try this at home. The chicken is shredded before it’s sautéed with lots of garlic, some onion or sometimes with ginger, seasoned with soy sauce, and served with rice.
