Did you know?

According to perfectlygrind.com, in 1957, the Frappé was accidentally created. Dimitris Vakondios, a Nestlé employee, represented the brand at an international tradeshow in Thessaloniki, Greece, where they advertised their newest shaker-ready chocolate beverage for kids.

He opted to improvise by combining his instant coffee with cold water in the shaker to generate a foamy drink that resembled a milkshake when he realized he couldn't find any hot water to brew his instant coffee. The drink's proteins, which establish a membrane on its surface to trap air and produce a thick, enduring foam, trigger this reaction.

There isn't much information on how Frappé gained its name, but around the late 1950s to the early 1960s, Nestle started to promote it extensively. The preparation techniques changed as the recipe became more widely used.
