Many students see student leaders as confident and hardworking individuals who are always ready to serve others. However, behind every position and responsibility is a story filled with struggles, sacrifices, and perseverance.
One of them is Mark Dave Tila-on Borromeo, a 20-year-old Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA) student who has spent almost five years serving as a student leader while working to support his studies and personal needs.

Markโs leadership journey began during his time at Burauen National High School when a teacher encouraged him to run for a position in the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG). What started as a simple opportunity soon became a passion for serving others.
Through the years, leadership became more than just holding a position. It became a way for him to represent students, help address their concerns, and make a positive impact on the school community. This passion eventually continued with him as he entered college.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ
Before entering college, Mark dreamed of becoming a flight attendant. However, financial challenges forced him to set aside that dream and choose a more practical path by taking up BS Management Accounting.
Determined to continue his education, he became a working student after graduating from Senior High School. For Mark, working was not only about earning money but also about helping lessen the financial burden on his family and supporting his own educational and personal needs.
โI started being a working student para makabulig ngan malessen an mga gastuson ha skwelahan ngan personal needs,โ he shared.
His journey became even more difficult when there was a time his father stopped supporting his studies and encouraged him to transfer schools. Despite this challenge, Mark remained firm in his decision to stay at Burauen Community College and continue pursuing his degree.

Being a student leader, a working student, and a college student at the same time brought many challenges. Managing academics, organizational duties, work responsibilities, and personal life often felt overwhelming.
โMakuri hiya ma-manage,โ Mark admitted, referring to the challenge of balancing his work, studies, personal life, and leadership responsibilities. He said.
Most of his days followed a simple but exhausting routineโgoing from school to home and then to work, leaving little time for rest and recreation. The constant demands of his responsibilities tested both his physical and emotional strength.

Despite the pressures he faces, Mark has learned ways to cope with difficult situations. Whenever he feels overwhelmed, he allows himself time to rest, reflect, and recharge.
โNormal la na ma-overwhelmed. Gusto ko hin peace ngan
maging alone to relax myself,โ he shared.
More importantly, he draws strength from the people who continuously support him, including his closest friends, partner, and sisters. Their encouragement reminds him that he is not facing his struggles alone. Above all, Mark remains motivated by his own circumstances.
โMy situation is my motivation.โ He added. Instead of allowing hardships to stop him, he uses them as inspiration to work harder and keep moving forward.

Through years of balancing leadership and work, Mark has developed valuable life skills. He learned how to manage his time effectively, budget his finances wisely, communicate confidently, and become more responsible in handling different commitments.
These experiences have shaped him into a more resilient and determined individual, preparing him for the challenges that await beyondcollege.
