Quite nice seeing our little brew-off being shared outside the region.

A small local event, now reaching a few more coffee people and communities.

DUPAX DEL SUR, Nueva Vizcaya — Thirty coffee professionals and enthusiasts from across Luzon converged at municipal gymnasium here on Sept. 12 for the Cahaya Coffee Clash: Brew-off Battle Season 2.

Competitors from Pangasinan, Benguet, Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya showcased their technical expertise, sensory evaluation skills, and brewing consistency.

A central highlight was the semifinal round, which utilized locally sourced Bugkalot coffee beans from Dupax del Sur.

Rodyio Tacdoy of La Trinidad, Benguet, secured first place in the competition.

Deanmark Bello, also from La Trinidad, took second place, while Lilibeth Maniwag of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, finished third place

Cahaya Café founder Rogiemar Gerodias said the annual event originated as a modest gathering to prepare local brewers for national stages while promoting regional tourism.

“We tied the competition with one of the province’s known tourist destinations and featured Bugkalot Coffee from Dupax del Sur as one of the competition beans, putting both our local coffee and tourism in the spotlight,” Gerodias said.

Organized in collaboration with the local government unit of Dupax del Sur through its tourism office and Cantobox Café, the event highlighted the quality of Philippine-grown beans and the traditions of local farming communities.
