Kapi Tako Social Enterprise was established in 2017 as the marketing section of the Cordillera Green Network (CGN), an environmental NGO. Since 2005, CGN has been implementing many agroforestry projects in the mountainous region of the Cordillera, Philippines, aimed at protecting forests and improving the livelihoods of indigenous peoples. Particularly in the project areas at higher elevations, CG
N has selected Arabica coffee trees as the main tree species to be planted, as it is suited to the region's soil and climate. The number of Arabica coffee seedlings planted by 2020 was more than 170,000. However, in the mountainous coffee-producing areas, it has been challenging to access the coffee beans market on their own. Therefore, CGN founded Kapi Tako Social Enterprise, a social enterprise company for fair trade of coffee beans, to buy the coffee beans that farmers have worked hard to grow and produce at a reasonable price to let farmers earn a stable income commensurate with their efforts. The Kapi Tako Social Enterprise & CGN also continue providing farmers with the necessary materials and training for post-harvest processing and promotes sustainable coffee production. Through Kapi Tako Social Enterprise, CGN trades green coffee beans produced by its agroforestry project to roasters in the Philippines and exports the beans overseas. The company also sells roasted coffee under the brand name "Yagam Coffee" to coffee lovers' general public. https://yagamcoffee.com/
