Y'all might've seen this guy peeping from over the machine the last year at Newtown making us all have a wee giggle while we make your brews.
Well Hitoshi this week will be making a few brews for the judges while he completes in the Wellington Barista Open 3pm on Friday ☕ 🙏
In the format two baristas go head to head preparing 3 courses to the judges within their service time. An espresso course, milk beverage course & alternative milk beverage course.
It puts the baristas personality, adaptability and skills to the test through a format similar to day to day service in a cafe.

We reckon Hitoshi can brew and charm his way to the top 🕺

Introducing the ETHIOPIAN GUJI URABEAST WASHED & NATURAL‼

The Natural Urabeast is a very full, fruit-forward coffee with deeper notes of blackberry, sauvignon blanc, sweet lime, and a lingering chocolate brownie flavour. 🍷🍋‍🟩
The Washed Urabeast creates a brighter, more tea-like cup, with notes of lemon, lime, and stone-fruit, accented by sparkling jasmine florals.✨🍑

Both of these coffees are produced at the Wubanchi processing station, founded by Tadesse Edema. Edema comes from a large family renowned throughout Guji for producing high-quality coffees, as their multi-generational expertise ensures every step is done right. Wubanchi processing blends the 74110 and 74112 Ethiopian heirlooms to create harmonious floral & fruity profiles

Both coffees create complex and clean cups, but with beautifully contrasting flavour profiles to suit different preferences and brewing methods.🌷

You can grab a bag online, or we frequently have one of these two coffees as our batch brew at the Terrace or Newtown, if you want to try before you buy! 👀

your pick from double cheese + bread & butter pickles OR smoked chicken & cranberry + swiss cheese! both served on the most delicious sourdough dressed with a mustard mayo ( + add salami or swiss to either if you fancy)

AND Newtown will be serving a range of pies from 9am everyday! 🥧
some highlights include your classic steak & cheese, Moroccan lamb to spice things up, and of course some standout vege options too

INTRODUCING THE PAPAYO NATURAL
This dynamic coffee produces an extremely clean cup with bright notes of grapefruit and lime, sweet strawberry notes, and lavender florals (Our team even picked up some bright notes of Terry’s Chocolate Orange) 🍋‍🟩🍊🍫

Another one of Jario Arcila’s coffees, this is no exception to his high standards, scoring an 88.7. Similar to Arcila’s Yellow Sudan Rume, the Papayo Natural undergoes a Natural Aerobic Fermentation process, contributing to the natural sweetness and complexities found in both cups. However, the Papayo Natural is less punchy and more balanced, combining the reliable sweetness of Pacamara and the floral elegance of the Gesha. 🙏

Introducing the YELLOW SUDAN RUME! ⭐💥
The ‘flavour-bomb’ of our new season coffees - This coffee creates a very juicy, punchy, full-bodied cup with notes of mango, strawberry, and lychee accented by floral notes of jasmine and bergamot 🥭🌸

The Yellow Sudan Rume is cultivated from a rare yellow cherry variant, which means higher acidity and more pronounced fruity & caramel characteristics. This particular coffee is produced by Jairo Arcila on his Villarazo Farm using 45-hour controlled aerobic fermentation processing, which involves precise temperature and pH monitoring, but rewards Arcila with a more refined, bold, and naturally sweet cup. Arcila consistently produces high-scoring coffees, with his 2025 Pink Bourbon Coconut Co-ferment winning Espresso of the Year in Helsinki, so we are proud to present to you another of his rare and high-quality coffee.

We recommend this as a pour-over or Aeropress to showcase the floral complexities alongside the bright, juicy acidity.

The forecast says it’s officially sunny season so we’ve decided to finally pop cold brew on the menu ☀️

If you love our hot filter brews this will be a sweeter, more refreshing cup, available all summer long
