Their story, their mahi and the positive difference they make in Wairoa stood out to us, and we are so pleased to recognise them through this kaupapa.

Watch the reel to see their special moment and hear a little more about why they were chosen. 💛

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who nominated someone, shared a story, commented, messaged us privately or supported Wairoa’s Local Hero.

Every nomination helps us shine a light on the incredible people within our community.

Our August nominations are now closed, and we’re beginning the important job of carefully going through the stories that have been shared with us.

This month, we’re doing things a little differently.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵.

Along with the new nominations received during August, we’re also carrying forward the incredible eligible nominations and stories shared on our original July Local Hero post.

That means our next Local Hero will be chosen from a much bigger pool of people who have been recognised by our community for the difference they make in Wairoa. 💛

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀.

We’ll now take some time to consider them carefully, organise our winner surprise and interview, and prepare their story so we can honour them properly.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who nominated someone, added to an existing story, messaged us privately or supported this kaupapa. 🌟

When we launched Wairoa’s Local Hero for the first time, you shared some incredible nominations and stories with us.

And it got us thinking...

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗻?

So we’re keeping them. 💛

For our August Local Hero, the wonderful nominations already shared on our original post will remain in consideration, excluding anyone who has already been selected as a Local Hero.

𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗗𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠.

👇 If you have someone new to nominate, add their name and story to this post.

Already see your nominee here? You’re welcome to add another comment telling us more about the difference they make.

Private nominations are welcome too.

There are already some beautiful stories here — now let’s add a few more. 🌟

If chosen, our Local Hero must be happy to take part in a relaxed, low-key interview and video so we can share their story with our community.

Nothing formal — just a genuine kōrero about who they are, what they do, and the difference they’ve made.

It’s about recognising their mahi, celebrating their story and hopefully inspiring others across Wairoa. 💛
