Many of you may have heard by now, but today is officially my last day here at Melting Pot Café. It’s truly a bittersweet moment.

What was originally meant to be a short trip from Australia to New Zealand somehow turned into 10 beautiful years. Through the mergers from Waiariki to Toi Ohomai and then Te Pūkenga, through the challenges of a pandemic, and through all the changes along the way, one thing always remained the same, the people.

This journey is one I will forever be proud of. Working within the tertiary education sector gave me the privilege of watching so many tauira come and go, achieving their dreams and building futures for themselves and their whānau. For 10 years, I’ve watched students walk through the café doors tired, stressed, excited, overwhelmed, and determined, stopping in for kai, coffee, or simply a yarn before heading back to chase their goals.

After sitting on this decision for almost six years, I’ve finally decided it’s my time to take that leap too. I’m stepping into a new chapter as a nursing student, ready to challenge myself, learn, grow, stress over assessments like many of you have, and push myself outside of my comfort zone. It’s both exciting and scary, but I know growth comes from being comfortable with the uncomfortable.

There are honestly too many memories to count. So many laughs, tears, milestones, and unforgettable moments shared with incredible ākonga and kaimahi over the years. You are all the reason I loved what I did. Melting Pot became more than just a workplace, it became home, and you all became whānau.

To my amazing MPC team, you are so much more than workmates. You are my whānau. My tamariki have grown up around the café and around all of you. Thank you for the love, support, laughter, and memories we’ve shared together. I won’t be too far away, so trust me, you’ll still see plenty of me 🩵 I love you all so much.

And to everyone else, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these past 10 years as special as they have been. I will always be grateful.

Hey Fam!! Heads up,

The Melting Pot Café at our Mokoia Campus is about to undergo an exciting transformation.

The Café will be closed during the upcoming semester break (July 5-19) to allow for some renovations. The closure during the semester break will ensure minimal disruption to ākonga.

Melting Pot kaimahi will be on-site at the Green Bean during this time to make sure you can still get your coffee. A selection of food items will also be available.

Alongside the Melting Pot renovations, over time we will introduce some new products as we trial a new service offering.

The friendly Melting Pot team will remain unchanged and will still be providing you with the top quality service that you are used to.

We're almost at that time when we start to slowly close down for the year. We would love to thank each and every one of you who has been a part of our 2022. For all the love and support throughout the year, y'all are rockstars.

The summer close down dates are as follows:

Closed: 21 December 2022 from 11am. There will be a set breaky menu for the day.

Re-open: 16 January 2023 from 8.30am-2.30pm. Breakfast menu from 8.30am-11.00am, then Lunch & Fries menu from 11am-1.30pm.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate this beautiful sight of sustainability. Say goodbye to plastic milk bottles and hello to milk on tap and in glass bottles. Keep cups are always available for purchase or always welcome to bring yours in with you or of course dine in and use one of our cups.

Celebrating 3 years paper cup free. Wow can’t believe it’s been 3 years already.
Thank you to everyone who continues to bring in their keep cups and helping us to be more sustainably efficient . And our way of saying thank you we ran a competition for anyone who buys coffee using their own keep cups automatically goes into the draw to win a weeks worth of free coffees. The 6 lucky winners will be drawn at random by students at 1pm today. Congratulations and good luck to you all 😍

Dear valued customers,

There will be no coffees at the Melting Pot between 9am and 10.30am on Wednesday, 25 May.

The cafe will be going through some upgrades, and a new, bigger coffee machine will be installed. This will replace the two machines we currently have in place.

Instead, visit us now for your delicious barista-made coffees and iced coffees.

​As the upgrades are happening down at the Melting Pot

there will be free coffee for our customers down at The Lab in C Block Mokoia Campus from 9.30-10.30am. Remember to take your cup with you if you need to take away or feel free to take a seat and dine in!!

Remember to be patient and kind to our new up and coming Hospitality super stars the STP students from Vanessa’s class as they’re still learning 🥰
