Celebrating a great night for ice cream and gelato!

What a fantastic evening at the 2026 NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards at The Glasshouse in Auckland last night.

It was wonderful to come together with so many people from across the industry and celebrate the creativity, expertise and passion that goes into producing some of New Zealand’s favourite ice creams and gelato.

The standard was certainly high, with 79 gold medals awarded across this year’s competition. A special congratulations to all of the medal winners, including the winners of the NZICA Kids’ Choice awards - Deep South for its Mango Ripple Ice Cream and Patagonia Chocolates for its Vanilla & Cookies. And a shout-out to the winners of the Chocolate Gelato, Sorbet or Dairy-Free Champion category – Joylato, Kerikeri Gelato and Patagonia Chocolates.

Day 1 at the NZIFST Conferenece 2026 is off to a strong start!

It's been great catching up with familiar faces and meeting so many people from across New Zealand's food industry.

With a strong programme featuring thought-provoking presentations from Shamubeel Eaqub and John Roche, along with discussions exploring Indigenous knowledge, food systems and innovation, there's already been plenty of valuable conversation and ideas shared. The conference theme of Growth is certainly coming to life.

What an incredible evening last week, celebrating the very best of Aotearoa’s cheesemaking industry at the 2026 NZ Champions of Cheese Awards.

Over the past 30 years, New Zealand has seen an explosion in the diversity and quality of locally produced cheeses - from European-inspired classics to truly unique creations that showcase our local ingredients and heritage. This year’s awards were a powerful reflection of that growth, with a record-breaking 267 entries judged by an expert panel in Auckland.

It was inspiring to see the innovation, craftsmanship, and passion on display across the industry, and to celebrate the achievements of this creative and rapidly evolving sector. Congratulations to all the winners and participants, in particular, Whitestone Cheese for its Monte Christo being awarded the Champion Commercial Cheese Award.

Today, 22 March, marks World Water Day - a global time to reflect on the vital role water plays in our lives and the urgent need to ensure safe access for all. This year’s theme, “Where water flows, equality grows,” highlights the powerful connection between water, women, and gender equality.

The global water crisis affects everyone - but not equally. In many communities, women and girls bear the greatest burden. They are the ones who collect water, manage its use, and care for those made ill by unsafe supplies. In doing so, they often sacrifice time, education, health, and economic opportunities.

Despite progress, 2.1 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water. Every day, women and girls spend a combined 250 million hours collecting water - a stark reminder that access to safe water is not just an environmental issue, but a social and economic one too.
