Labour Weekend is closer than it looks.

We're closed on Friday 23 October for Hawke's Bay Anniversary, then open as usual on Saturday and Sunday from 5.30.

Advanced warning: There will be a lot of people in town with nothing booked, so it is worth locking in now, or risk the bitter bitter disappointment of missing out.

Six Hands is back! And this time it's ours.

It started at Black Barn Bistro with three chefs, one kitchen. Now round two is coming to Central Fire Station on Thursday 29 October, and once again the three sets of hands belong to Regnar Christensen from Black Barn, Casey McDonald from Craggy Range Restaurant and of course our very own Sam Clark.

This time they are celebrating the best of the Bay's spring produce.

Three of the Bay's best, showing off everything spring has given them across three snacks and three courses. Not a bad Thursday.

Here's the catch: this is almost sold out (if you aren't on our newsletter, where have you been?). So if you want to attend, best you book ASAP.

$169 per person.

It's 1 October so you know what it's time for, right?

Christmas bookings!

Someone has to organise the work do, and we both know who it's going to be (aka maybe you).

The Engine Room seats 14 behind its own door, so your lot can get as loud as they like (within reason) and the rest of the restaurant will be none the wiser. December fills up well before December arrives, which makes this the good kind of problem to solve early.

Spring has now removed the last of your weather-based excuses, and the person you keep meaning to see is presumably running out of theirs too. Pick a night, tell them it's booked, and enjoy some time catching up - because no one ever regrets a dinner out with a friend.

Think Negroni, but spiced.

For Negroni Week we're pouring the Mulled W**e Negroni, built with National Distillery's Verdigris gin, Campari infused with charred blood orange and a red w**e syrup made from Chateau Garage's cornerstone Cabernet Sauvignon, then finished with a brulee'd blood orange wheel that does most of the talking before you've even had a sip.

It is a warm hug for your body, which is exactly what you want a drink to be at the start of a night.

Negroni Week runs 21 to 27 September. Napier is already the art deco capital of the Southern Hemisphere, so we may as well go after New Zealand's Negroni Capital while we are at it!
