Our story....

Hi, we are Gavin & Krissy & we are the new owners of Junction Cafe!!

Last December we made the big move from the Gold Coast, Australia to come pursue our dream of running our own cafe... (& Gav’s dream of moving back to NZ, being an old Russell local!) We’ve brought with us our 2 littlest ratbags, Tj (6) & Brax (3) & we’re happy to now have our 2 bigger adult ratbags also close-by, Cassie & Kyle.

We are a family run business, with both of us here most days aswell as having our rugrats helping (or hindering...lol) when they can!!! Along with some other amazing staff we have been lucky enough to employ...

We spent the first few months here renovating, cleaning & re-fitting the cafe! We spent alot of time talking to locals & hearing their concerns about the place when previously open in the past. We have worked our set-up around this, firstly by ensuring we have great coffee from Allpress, having enough staff on for great customer service at all times, having our cabinets full as much as possible for quick & easy selection, early opening & late closing, putting the dairy in for local convenience, re-vamping the place to make it more welcoming for a larger range of customers including putting in a playground & indoor kids area aswell as providing a clean & inviting space for everyone!

Our main aim is to provide delicious fresh food & great service to all of our customers. To ensure this, we make all our sandwiches & rolls fresh every morning on freshly baked bread almost straight out of the oven. All our pies & sausage rolls are also baked fresh daily. All our eggs are ‘Local & Free Range’ & we source all our meat from a local butcher to ensure we get the best. We try to have something for everyone & have options for gluten free diners & also a kids menu for the littlies. We are flexible & willing to work with anyones needs where possible, so if you don’t see something you like, please don‘t hesitate let us know what you’re after & we are happy to work something out.

Being that we have had to start the cafe & menu from scratch, with nothing existing here for some time, we have done our best to try & cover all tastes but we are also continuing to try mix things up. We are currently trialling different menu items by doing daily specials to see whether these interest locals & we will also mix up the menu for winter/summer accordingly (including some yum soups & chowders coming into winter). So please feel free to share with us your ideas & let us know what you would like to see here.

We also value your feedback, good or bad, so please share your thoughts with us... We are putting everything we have into this & doing our best to be everything the locals want but we also know we’re not perfect & there’s always room for improvement!
