Over the weekend we said haere rā to Ryan from of Uncle Espresso Bar and welcomed Ariya as the new owner.

Same coffee, same community, new face.

For those who don't know, Ryan has been a big part of our Firsthand family, not just as a wholesaler for the last few years, but as staff back in the early Firsthand days, when we just had .
He then became the face of our second site, .coffee after opening and had a big part in creating the culture there.

A sad day for us at Firsthand. Ants is saying goodbye to us and moving into a new role at Brave Brewing.
In his 5 years of being with us he has grown so much, made friends for life .(aye?..)
and has brought out the silly in us, making us laugh everyday.

Our staff and customers will miss you very much, but lucky for everyone you won’t be far away, and hope you'll do a few guest appearances from time to time.
Go forth and shed your outgrown Firsthand shell our wee crustacean, and grow a new one.
We wish you all the best Ants and have no doubt you will smash it.

Catch him on Friday for his last shift at Cupple and Saturday at Workroom for his last official day, if you want to come and cry about it over a flat white.

Huge thanks to our hardworking staff across our cafes, our wholesale cafes for choosing Firsthand, and you lot that support our local roastery by buying beans online, in store, supporting our local cafes around hawkes Bay.

Roastery and Workroom cafe, are closed 25th, 26th the 1st and the 2nd but open every other day 7-2 for all your coffee needs (closing at 1pm on the 24th and the 31st).

We wish you a Merry Christmas, and New Year, and we will see you for a lot more coffee in 2026.
