On Thursday Weka Point took delivery of a new mower to assist with recovery of the campsite.
The mower, supplied by Stevenson and Taylor was donated by the Tumanako Charitable Trust, a local trust supporting cyclone recovery in Rissington, Patoka and Puketitiri.
The mover, twice as wide as existing mower, will significantly reduce time to mow the campsite, saving in fuel costs.
(Our existing mower was dug out from a metre of silt and has limited lifespan).
Special thanks to Tumanako Charitable Trust who having also assisted with costs in reinstalling our waste water system and Bennett Williams from Stevenson and Taylor for onsite delivery.
Ian Paterson, Phil Crombie from Weka Point and Patrick O’Rourke Trustee from Tumanako were onsite to assist with delivery.

It’s been all go on site over last two weeks, in between the rain and high river levels.
Bridge Builders on site and work on Dead man’s anchor and up to concreting in the posts for bridge and ladder.
Trees cleared from around the site of anchor on farm side including large pine tree which was a threat to new bridge. Thanks to Chris and son who have dropped tree and on Saturday was ringed and cleaned up. More firewood to be split.
Entry point on farm side is now much more open with stand of natives.
Plumbers and Electricians had almost completed fit out of ablution block and commissioning of water pump.
We are behind schedule due to wet weather and will confirm when campsite is open.
Meantime the site is CLOSED during construction. No unauthorised entry.

Lots of progress at Weka over last few weeks:

Our electrical and plumbing partners Isaac’s have been on site to complete scoping work.

We have ordered new 10 foot mower to speed up time and cost to mow. Will attach to our John Deere 6430 tractor.

Our bridge builders are on site on Friday for final preparations for build next month.

Today we commenced repainting of shower room and paraplegic toilet. They are slightly brighter in quarter tea colour paint.

Campsite has had a full mow over last two weeks and starting to look great again.

Will keep you posted on developments over next few weeks
