150 YEARS OF KUMARA - LET’S CELEBRATE! 🎉
This is a pretty special milestone for our little town.

On Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October, we’re coming together to celebrate the people, stories, music and community that have made Kūmara what it is today.

And here at the Theatre Royal, we’re very proud to be right in the middle of it.
Over the weekend our stage will come alive with some fantastic local talent, including Ellen Barry, Clayton Taylor “The Billygoat Kid”, John Acker, Ra Ra Anning, Marie-Louise & Friends, the Greymouth Community Choir, Vinny & Corrina “Banter Mode” and more.

There’ll be music to sing along to, stories from Kumara’s past, plenty of good food and drink, and lots of opportunities to catch up with old friends and make a few new ones.

Most importantly, it’s a chance to celebrate 150 years of Kumara - the characters who came before us, the generations who have called this place home, and the community that keeps its stories alive today.

Have a look through the tiles for the full Friday and Saturday programme.
Bring the family, gather the friends and come be part of a weekend 150 years in the making. 🥂

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

At most hotels, you book a room number.
Here, you stay with a character.

The Theatre Royal’s six hotel rooms are named after people connected to its story, with Victorian antiques and individual details that give each one a personality of its own.

You still get the modern comforts expected from a quality stay. You simply get a much better story to go with them.

Explore the rooms and choose yours -

Take a virtual 3D tour of Theatre Royal Hotel Kumara. Explore every room in detail and experience the charm of the West Coast from anywhere.

The last few kilometres of a day on the Wilderness Trail tend to involve some very specific thoughts:
A hot shower.
Something cold to drink.
A proper dinner.
And a bed that doesn’t need to be packed away again in the morning...

That’s the part of the trail experience we know rather well.

Riders can finish the day with us with secure bike storage, e-bike charging, a welcoming bar, dinner and a comfortable place to stay - all in the heart of Kumara.

Planning your West Coast Wilderness Trail adventure this spring?
Make the Theatre Royal part of it.

A little something to look forward to next week… 🎶🍻

Open Mic Night is back on Friday 2 October from 7pm!

Come along for an evening of live local music, good company and plenty of West Coast character.

Got a song up your sleeve?
Bring your instrument and take the stage. Or, for those pianists, we have a perfect concert pitch tuned piano on stage!
Prefer your music from the other side of the microphone?
Grab a drink, find a spot and enjoy the show.

Whether you’re a regular performer, keen to give it a go for the first time, or simply looking for a good Friday night out, we’d love to see you there.

You don’t need to be staying at the Theatre Royal to claim a table.

Our restaurant is as much a place for West Coast locals as it is for travellers passing through Kumara - somewhere to meet, settle in and enjoy dinner without rushing off again.

Add good food, a little hotel character and the likelihood of hearing at least one decent story from the bar, and you have a very good reason not to cook tonight.

Travelling together doesn’t mean squeezing into one hotel room.

Our stand-alone Miners’ Cottages offer self-contained space for up to four guests, making them a comfortable base for families, friends or couples sharing a West Coast trip.

You get your own front door and room to settle in - with the restaurant and bar close by.
