We know this news might come as a shock, but we want you to know that the OUSA Executive has not made this decision lightly. The honest truth is that we have significant concerns around the building and the health and safety risk it poses to our staff and students. With the University’s decision to vacate the Wellington campus building, this added another factor to our decision making. Our time in lockdown enabled us some time to make the decision that Starters Bar cannot re-open.

We’re gutted. This bar was not only the last student owned bar but was important for alcohol harm mitigation in our community. We’re also keenly aware that this is another music venue in Dunedin that is closing down. That’s why the OUSA Exec are committed to continue to search for a new venue for students – we'll continue to work with the DCC and the University on this. We know how important the last student bar is. But your safety is most important to us. Until then, pour one out for Starters and all the memories.

here we goooo, we're back open from this wednesday!!!

we're back baby and we couldn't be more excited!! you won't be bored w the lineup we've got for you 😎 we'll have events running every night plus our main bar will be open from 5 - 10pm for dinner and drinks!

pls read the below carefully (soz it's v long) so the process is easy as poss x

NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED, you can just walk in. BUT if you'd like to reserve a table, you can bookings can be made for up to 10 people
once we hit our 50 capacity, you'll have to wait until a group leaves to be let in

to reserve a table or your place at an event, please EMAIL [email protected] with your name, time you'll be arriving AND how many people are in your group (limit of 10 per group).

📣 GENERAL RULES 📣
our two areas will be running separately, so you cannot move between the two
once we reach our 50 capacity, you may need to wait to be let in until a group leaves
when you arrive, you must scan in with the covid-19 tracer app
you have to wait to be seated by one of our staff. once seated, you must stay seated unless going to the bathroom or leaving
and lastly, please be kind to our staff and don't be a dick!!!! this is new for all of us, so pls be patient and respectful to everyone 🖤

A newly inspired event, Music Talks aims on bringing together all industry players to promote conversation around current challenges faced by minorities, with the aim of future collaborative solutions. Music Talks will run as two events on Weds, 25 August.

Music Talks: Hui / 6 - 8pm
The hui hopes to boost confidence and create an open discussion on the challenges faced by minorities in the music industry. Registrations from www.musictalkshui.eventbrite.co.nz!

Music Talks: Artist Showcase / 9pm - late
A live artist showcase featuring Mads Harrop, Mantis, Moondog, TEDZ plus MORE to be announced!
