Our beautiful girl Tash had a really big weekend 🏥 Turns out she’s a super tough cookie and displaced organs are no match for our girl! 🩻😼
For those of you who don’t know, Tash came to us with her sister Floss a couple of years ago when they were about six months old. Both girls have heart murmurs, but Tash was also diagnosed with a pericardial hernia which meant the contents of her abdomen were pushing through a hole in her diaphragm into the area surrounding her heart. Surgery to try and fix it was deemed very risky and there was a high chance Tash wouldn’t survive (especially with her heart condition) so given that her quality of life was good, her vet team decided it was best not to proceed with attempting to fix it. We’ve always known Tash’s time with us could be short and we’ve always kept a close eye on her health 🐈⬛👀
On Friday, Tash started to display some concerning symptoms so we rushed her to the vet and after doing some x-rays, we were told emergency surgery was now her only option. It was a very major, high risk operation and there was a decent chance there would be nothing we could do, but given the only other choice was to let Tash go we of course decided to try. Tash, being the hardy girl she is, made it through surgery, a touch and go post-op period, and is recovering well in one of our iso rooms ❤️🩹
During surgery, the vets discovered that almost all of her small intestines had passed through the hole in her diaphragm into her chest, along with a good portion of her liver. Luckily for Tash they were able to move everything back into her abdomen and close up the hole in her diaphragm!
We really thought we were going to have to say goodbye to Tash a couple of days ago so we are so so happy to still have her here with us. A huge thank you to the team at The Cat Vet for literally saving her life ❤️
