Authentic Jerk Chicken & Pork, cooked by a Yardie right here in Kinglsand Nanny is a symbol of rebelliousness, equality and freedom.

Authentic Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork, cooked by a Yardie right here in the heart of Kingsland (as close as we could get to Kingston!)

The name Nanny’s is derived from one of Jamaica’s seven National heroes. Nanny or Queen Nanny was a powerful female leader of the Jamaican Maroons in the eighteenth century. The Maroons were slaves who escaped from the plantations and formed their own communities i

n the dense forest of Jamaica. Nanny was a great warrior queen with excellent warfare and leadership skills. She is known as one of the earliest leaders of slave resistance in the Americas. It is commonly said that she freed more than 800 slaves and helped them to resettle in the Maroon community. Her legendary spirit lives on in the Jamaican society to this day. Her ability to survive against all odds, adapt to new conditions and victoriously fight for dignity and respect is inspiring to us all. Naming the business after Nanny is our way of honouring her, the spirit she represents and our shared passion for empowering females. We want to let the world know about the great mother of Jamaica. Like Jamaican culture and history, Nanny represents something “creole” a mixture of different cultures, which is what we see in our style of cooking. Nanny’s serves food inspired by this cultural “creole-ness” that suits the Kiwi taste. Promoting Jamaica’s national motto “Out of Many, One People” as tribute to the unity of the different cultural minorities inhabiting the nation.

Dear Valued Customers,

After four amazing years, we have made a big decision. Nanny’s Eatery will be closing its doors as we choose to spend more time as a family.

We’ve loved sharing our flavours, laughter, and a touch of Jamaican spice with you all. From the fiery jerk chicken to the sweet plantain, you’ve let us fill your bellies and warm your hearts — and for that, we’re truly grateful.

Thank you for the love, the laughter, and the empty plates you always brought back. As they say in Jamaica, "Wi likkle but wi tallawah" — we may be small, but we’re mighty!

We do not yet have a date for closing, so come on through while you still can!
