Happy 420! Hope everyone is doing well today!

We wanted to announce that we have decided to shut down our business in the next couple of weeks. Our last day of business will be on May the 4th. (be with you) 15 more days. After that date, ShakaBowl will no longer be offering any more poke in the Auckland CBD area.

The decision to close down this business was not easy, but because of rising cost, wage, covid, storm etc. (man it's been such a journey)

Over the years, both Rufus and myself have enjoyed the relationships with our many loyal customers and ex-employees.Its been real it's been fun =) .chang_ .jee .02.00

I didn’t want to create this post, as it felt like we were ‘giving up’ on our business and our customers, but Shaka Bowl is built on values of honesty and integrity and we wanted to be honest with our customers and let them know that closing down might be inevitable in the near future.

The impacts of Covid have taken a toll on the once beautiful and vibrant CBD and business just isn’t like it used to be.

On top of that, the flooding and cyclone have caused further damage to our city, including my own home, making it difficult for us to keep pushing through.

We had hoped for a better future for Shaka Bowl but we are exhausted and struggling to find the silver lining, or the light at the end of the tunnel.

Having said that, we value and appreciate all of our customers. In fact, the only saving grace these past two years have been our smiley-faced regulars who visit us every week and tell us our Poke is the best!

Please don’t be shy, and we hope that you’ll pop in, say hi, and get your Shaka fid in the coming weeks. You can also find us on Ubereats!

It was 5 years ago that Shaka Bowl opened on 5 High Street. This is our story.

Part 2.

We began at the night markets in Pakuranga and our first event was a success! You all came and we sold out within the first 2 hours of opening. People enjoyed our food! We also trialed another one in Glenfield (Drop us a ❤️ if you remember us from those days) A few months of planning and I decided to leave my 9-5 job in the corporate world and look for a more permanent location for Shaka Bowl.

Part 2.

It was 5 years ago that Shaka Bowl opened on 5 High Street. This is our story.

I had my first poké bowl in LA in 2015, and loved it! Upon returning to Auckland I realised there were no poké shops here, so I decided to make them at home myself. After playing around with a few recipes, I decided that I was confident enough in my recipe that I should share it with others. This is when the original idea for a poké shop began.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUFUS!

For those of you who don’t know him, Rufus is the other half of Shaka Bowl. He’s the numbers guy, and I handle the front of house. We make the perfect team and our dynamic keeps the company in peace. We value our friendship over success or money. Even through the toughest times, we were able to persevere, as long as I had his back and he had mine.

He’s my ride or die, the Woody to my Buzz, the Timon to my Pumba, the squirrel to my acorn.

Help us in wishing this incredible specimen an amazing day today!
