Sylvia Vavik-Flåten is a Mexican-Norwegian chef, culinary educator and founder of Sylvia’s Mexican Kitchen. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine and innovative Mexican-Nordic fusion rooted in c

ultural heritage, creativity and sustainability. She has participated as guest chef and instructor at international festivals and culinary institutions in Mexico, Finland and Norway, including Universidad del Valle de México and ISIMI Reynosa Culinary School. As a former winner of TV2’s Norges Grillmester, she is widely recognized for her dynamic teaching style, hands-on cooking classes and immersive dining experiences. In addition to her work as a chef and educator, Sylvia is also active as a culinary consultant, helping restaurants and brands develop Mexican-inspired concepts with a Nordic identity. She is the creator of her own salsa collection, crafted from local Norwegian ingredients combined with traditional Mexican techniques. Through storytelling, flavours and traditions, Sylvia builds bridges between two culinary worlds – celebrating heritage, community, and the power of food to connect people.
