Our work will be mostly with children of single, underprivileged mothers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In the long run we would like to expand the project to work in other cities and/or regions as well. TESFA will finance room and board for such families under the condition that the children attend school and get an education. TESFA’s goal in Ethiopia is to help realize the children’s hope for a brigh
ter future. That starts with a roof over their head, food on the table and school. Long term it includes help to find employment after they are finished with their education. It is also a goal to start a programme/support for the single parents to find employment. If this succeeds, the families will then be able to provide for themselves and TESFA can move on to helping new families. TESFA’s goal in Norway is to create awareness and commitment for volunteer work. TESFA considers “commitment” as working actively for a cause, not only contributing financially. “Awareness” means helping to fulfil the receiving family’s need, and not only the goals of Norwegian funders.
