“Aula interviewed us at the beginning of the process, asking about memories from places in our lives that carried positive feelings and associations. This is truly reflected in the apartment, and has become a gesture that creates a sense of happiness every day.”

Excerpt from the latest issue of Nytt Rom, featuring the project we’ve named The Composed Apt.

Thank you for a wonderful project, Ane and Caspar, and to Pernille Münster for the beautiful photography.

Solea — a reference to the sun, to warmth, to spring and long summer days.

When we designed the textile collection Trama, we started with simple impressions; of city, nature, and the feeling of summer. Not as something literal, but as something we wanted to translate into each design.

Solea carries that warmth.

To bring that feeling into the kitchen, into the everyday, is not insignificant. The objects we live with shape more than we think and can become small reminders of something good🌞

Let us introduce you to the project we’ve named The Row House — simply because that is what it is. A row house overlooking the city of Oslo.

Located at Refstad, the house sits within a cohesive residential development, defined by a clear architectural language and a strong relationship to its surroundings. This existing framework has guided our work and shaped how we approach space, materiality, and the introduction of new layers within the home.
We are drawn to working within clear frameworks, to respond to what already exists while carefully resolving the challenges each client brings.

Demolition is well underway, and we look forward to sharing more of the process as it unfolds this spring~

In the project we’ve named House of Curiosity, shaped by both the history of the house and the owners’ aesthetic preferences, the interiors are now starting to take form. Wallpaper is going up, the kitchen is being installed, and the red thread running through colours and material choices is becoming visible.

This is such a satisfying moment in the design process, seeing all the elements come together. Each part has been chosen on its own terms, yet always in relation to a larger aesthetic direction.

For us, and in anthropological terms, home is never just a place. It is a cultural stage for lived life and a private sphere. A place to withdraw, to soften, to return to oneself. To find calm, and a sense of being held.
No wonder home matters so deeply.

The year has begun with several new projects, each unfolding in different ways and at different scales. What connects them all is Aula’s anthropological approach to design, interiors, and everyday life.

Our aim is always the same: to work closely with our clients so that design and interior decisions are grounded in insight — into how life is lived, and how architecture, space, colour, and furnishing can support it. The goal is to create environments that last over time, reducing the need for constant renovation and renewal.

These images are from a recently initiated project in Oslo. We look forward to sharing more as it develops ~

Atmosphere is a recurring concept in our design process. Subtle and often elusive, it is nonetheless essential to us.

For us, atmosphere arises in the meeting between people, space, and objects. It cannot be designed directly, nor added as decoration. It emerges through light, materiality, structure, order, and the way a space is lived in. It is about how a room makes you feel; calm, inspired, grounded, at ease. This understanding guides every project we take on~

A new project begins - this 1935 residence, designed by architect Leif Egerberg, is a remarkable semi-detached villa in characteristic functionalist style, centrally located in Oslo.

These photos show the house as it stands today with its proportions, details, and architectural language intact. The project carries a strong historical presence, with elements that call for careful preservation and respectful continuity. At the same time, the house will be shaped to support its new owners with their lives, needs, and visual expression.

We look forward to bringing the plans to life and sharing more as the project unfolds.

In every design process, thoughts, emotions, and impressions are at work. It’s a continuous state we carry across projects. At times, our attention sharpens and colours, rhythms, and patterns in our surroundings come into focus. Observations like these often become starting points, translated into palettes, materials, and spatial decisions.
