Women’s Stories
is the title of an art exhibition featuring three Iraqi artists: Lamyahussain Mahdawy , Maha talib , and Evan Hikmat . The exhibition was held in Haugesund, Norway.
The showcased artworks explore the themes of women’s struggles, the impact of wars and social restrictions, and their ongoing fight for rights. At the same time, they highlight women's strength as a symbol of life’s continuity, representing earth, birth, existence, and resilience.
This was the first event of its kind in the city, featuring an art dialogue session and a cultural exchange between moderator Mona Aarø and Evan Hikmat in Norway, while Maha Talib Mekki joined via Skype from Iraq. The session was attended by Norwegian artists and a diverse audience.
A special thanks to the wonderful Mona Mona Elin Motsfeldt Aarø for her continuous support and for making this event possible. Thanks also to everyone who attended—this was truly a rich and inspiring experience.
The exhibition was hosted at OudGalleryCafé in Norway, an Iraqi-led project that bridges East and West, aiming to build a cultural and social connection between Eastern and European traditions. The project fosters storytelling, cultural exchange, and diversity, bringing people together through music, art exhibitions, and a unique fusion of Eastern and Western cuisine.
OudGalleryCafé has also hosted numerous art exhibitions featuring Norwegian artists and organized several musical events, incorporating Eastern instruments and the language of the oud to create a unique cultural fusion.
In addition to many cultural activities.
Through this exhibition and the café, a deeper understanding of Iraqi customs and society has emerged. It has provided an opportunity to explore our traditions and culture in all their forms, creating a common language—the language of cultures. Visitors also discovered Iraqi art, artists, and the history of our creative movement, opening doors to new conversations, cultural exchanges, and future collaborations.
Idea ,Concept, ex*****on, and management: Otali Al Jaffal & Evan Hikmat.
