Brothers, sisters and wild believers, the time has come once again to gather at the altar of fermentation. 🦠🍻

From Thursday through Sunday, Carnivale Brettanomyces returns to De Kromme Haring. Four sacred days of tastings, lectures, strange experiments and the spreading of the Word of the Wild. The festival is, as always, shepherded by our own brewer Jan, who has assembled a congregation of brewers, makers and fermentation fanatics from near and far.

If you're attending, don't miss Brewing the Truth on Sunday, featuring Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery: One of the most influential voices in modern beer culture, he'll be diving into brewing traditions, innovation, and why beer remains a living, evolving craft. It's not every day a speaker like him makes the trip to Utrecht.

On Friday evening, our own Stephen will also be hosting a special brewery tasting, taking you through some of our beers, ideas and experiments.

Wiard and De Haring go way back - meeting up at the varied places where we supplied, and Wiard served our beers. For the last seven years Arendsnest is his home, the spiritual home of Dutch beer culture, where he is enthusiastically helping his guests discover great Dutch beer.

For Wiard, saison is the ultimate food-pairing beer. The dryness and carbonation helps cut through rich, fatty dishes, and in his eyes there's a saison out there for just about every meal you can imagine.

Recently, Wiard became a dad, so these days most of his time outside work is spent looking after his son. That's why we handed him SNAPPER, our 2.5% summer saison for this portrait. Refreshing, easy-drinking, and a smart choice of companion, when your days start early and your nights can be unpredictable.

The holy trinity: studying, working, and drinking beer. That's what life currently looks like for Jim.

When we visited him at Café De Zaak on his day off, he'd just finished a long weekend of shifts and was enjoying the third part of that trinity: a bottle of Les Perles du Homard.

For Jim, this saison feels closest to the classic expression of the style - layered, dry, and full of history. It's the kind of beer he loves sharing stories about with guests across the bar.

And soon, you'll be able to sample it too in our upcoming saison tasting box.

Pintenhof's showing all colours of the rainbow 🌈

Not because Pride Month is coming up, but because making space for people to fully be themselves has always mattered to us.

Our team is made up of different nationalities, identities, sexualities, backgrounds and stories, and honestly, De Kromme Haring wouldn't be what it is without that mix of people shaping it every day.

Beer culture can still sometimes feel exclusive or stuck in old ideas of who belongs where. We want this place to be the opposite of that: a brewpub where everyone feels welcome to pull up a chair, grab a beer and be themselves.

And on Saturday June 6th, when the Pride boat parade takes over the city of Utrecht, we're teaming up with The Worst Karaoke for a big afterparty full of loud singing, cold beers and chaotic energy 💖

Our Funky Saison might be low in ABV, but just like Little Beer Shop, it's anything but small in character.

You probably know Fred already — owner of one of Utrecht's most specialised beer shops, and someone who appreciates beers with depth that still stay highly drinkable. That's exactly why he reaches for a Funky Saison, especially when the sun's out.

Tu-ku-shee? Too-coo-chee? Tuck-cuck-see? Too sexy?
Honestly, we're still figuring it out ourselves.

What we do know: TUCUXI is tasting real good. 🥭☀️

Our new fruited sour is packed with mango & guava, bringing big tropical energy with a refreshing tart finish that's basically made for sunny days. Google says it's pronounced /tuːˈkuːʃiː/, brewer Jan just calls it: "LEKKER!"

That's probably enough pronunciation practice for one beer. Time to drink a couple!

Behind the bar at Achter de Koekoek you'll find Evy. She's been working in hospitality for years, but made the move here because of the neighbourhood vibe. She loves talking to people, discovering new beer styles together, and helping guests find something unexpected.

Herself? She likes to crack open a Fugu. For her, the slight tartness of the yuzu gives this saison just the right amount of excitement.

Want to taste what she means? We've still got tickets left for this Sunday's Saison Crawfish Boil at the brewpub - and in our eyes, Fugu is the perfect saison to pair with it.
