❤️ Today we are asking our community for something very close to our hearts.

For 16 years, Sally has been the warm smile behind Vesna Taverna — the one who remembers your order, welcomes you like family, and shows up day after day with quiet dedication.

Many of you know her. Many of you love her.

Last year, after the heartbreaking loss of my sister, our family gave up our life savings and moved to Sint Maarten to help keep Vesna alive in her honor. We poured everything we had into preserving this special place.

But life had other plans. Due to serious family health needs, we were forced to return to the United States sooner than we ever imagined.

Before fully stepping away, we have one deeply important goal:

To help Sally become the owner of the restaurant she has helped build for nearly two decades.

In late 2024, Sally faced a serious health complication of her own. Thankfully, she has recovered and is taking care of her health — but it reminded all of us just how quickly life can change.

We believe in Sally with our whole hearts. Because of that, we have made the decision to cut the price of the restaurant in half to give her a real chance to carry Vesna’s legacy forward.

Now we are asking the community to help bridge the gap.

💔 Sometimes the hardest decisions come from the deepest love.

For the past year, our family has had the honor — and the emotional weight — of owning Vesna Taverna, a place that means far more than food to so many people on this island.

But our story with Vesna didn’t begin a year ago…

For the past 12 years, my mom and I have taken a yearly mother-son trip to Sint Maarten. On our very first trip, we were driving by one morning — tired, hungry, and running late for an excursion to Anguilla. The bridge was open, and it was either McDonald’s… or Vesna Taverna.

We actually started toward McDonald’s.

But after a few minutes of waiting (and watching those beautiful yachts), hunger won — and I turned the car into Vesna.

We had no idea in that moment that our lives were about to change.

That spontaneous stop became the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Year after year, trip after trip, we kept coming back. Not just for the food — but for Sally… for the warmth… for the feeling of being home when we were far from it.

A few years later we met Vesna and Yannick, and our connection to this little restaurant only grew stronger.

So when my sister passed away suddenly at just 45 years old from a heart condition, our family was heartbroken and searching for meaning in the grief. Buying Vesna Taverna wasn’t just business…

It was personal.

We gave up our life savings.
We left the comfort of home.
And we moved to Sint Maarten with one promise in our hearts:

Keep Vesna alive.

Over this past year, we poured everything we had — emotionally, physically, financially — into honoring that promise.

But sometimes life humbles even the best intentions.

Due to serious family health needs that require access to advanced medical care, we were faced with an impossible decision. With heavy hearts, we had to return to the United States to take care of the people we love most.

And now we find ourselves at another emotional crossroads.

Because if there is one thing we know for sure…

Vesna Taverna deserves to live on.

And there is only one person we can truly see carrying its heart forward:

Sally.

For 16 years, Sally has been the heartbeat of this restaurant. The smile that welcomed you. The familiar face that remembered your order. The quiet constant who helped make Vesna feel like home.

Her story is one of strength and resilience. Years ago, she was forced to leave her home island because of political circumstances beyond her control. She came to Sint Maarten and rebuilt her life the only way she knew how — through hard work, loyalty, and showing up every single day.

For nearly two decades…

She hasn’t just worked at Vesna.
She has helped hold it together.

It is our deepest, most heartfelt hope to see Sally given the chance to carry this beautiful tradition forward.

In the coming days, we will be sharing how those who believe in Sally — and believe in keeping Vesna’s spirit alive — can help make this possible.

We are excited to share that Vesna Taverna will soon become Kimberly’s Island Cuisine. While our name is changing, everything you love about us will stay exactly the same — the food, the team, the atmosphere, and the heart behind every dish.
This change is deeply personal to our family. Our restaurant is owned by Kimberly’s mom and her two brothers, and we wanted a way to keep our late daughter and sister, Kimberly, close and part of what we build every day. Even though she is no longer with us, her spirit, kindness, and love will live on through the name and energy of our restaurant.
