We are two young motivated nature enthusiasts from the United states and Canada, who have just purchased a 12 acres piece of land on the pacific coast in Northern Nicaragua. It is in a village called Salinas Grandes where rural folks make their living and hard earned wages through agriculture of sugarcane, salt and fishing. Traditional agricultural practices have left the soil dry, salty and nearl
y impossible to cultivate. We want to introduce this new method of farming to regreen the area, help the locals learn how to grow food for themselves in a way that benefits them and future generations, and we want to introduce composting and recycling at the local schools and in their homes. Nicaragua has also experienced harsh years of drought making it difficult to cultivate with lack of water supply therefore we want to introduce permaculture methods of rain water collection and watersaving .
