This is so true!
How many times have we been told we are just a nation of lazy sods, who just simply eat too much, and don't move enough?
Well, its one of the biggest cons of all time!
Why?
As a nation, the low-fat era made us fat and lethargic! Low-fat diets make us fatigued. Try as we might, it is very difficult to exercise when one is fatigued.
Low-fat diets simply DO NOT have the nutrients we need to produce adequate energy. Fat is long-lasting energy, it provides fuel for HOURS, which is why people on LCHF (low carb, high fat) don't need to eat as often, and can power through their day without the need to eat every two hours!
Not only that, low-fat diets make our body acidic, which means we get less oxygen to our cells.
Now the sceptics love to tell us that the human blood cannot become acidic, or we will die, and that is true. The pH of the blood has to be between 7.3 and 7.45 for us to remain living, and the body is great at making sure that happens. However, if our extra-cellular fluid becomes acidic, the blood drops down to the lower end of the spectrum and sits at around 7.3, which results in around 65% LESS oxygen in the blood than blood with a pH in the higher end of the range!
And the result is fatigue. And I am not just talking feeling tired. Full blown fatigue. No wonder it is a struggle for many people to exercise. They are not just lazy sods, they are just plain tired.
And this story from Jadie is a perfect example:
Until I went LCHF 3 weeks ago, I hadn't exercised in probably 6 months. Today I went to a Body Pump class - my first in 4 years and it's ONLY because eating LCHF has given me the energy and motivation to get off the couch and do it!
"I used to eat carbs ravenously, which was always followed by a dip in energy, so I'd eat something sweet to ''pick me up'' and it was just a vicious cycle. Now, I eat 3 (relatively smaller) meals a day and NEVER feel hungry."
Very true. The secret to a great life has got to be fat! One day soon we will look back on the low fat era and shake our heads in disbelief. It is definitely time to bring back the fat!
The pic is my buckwheat crepe (in the cookbook), which is surprisingly easy to make and a great substitute for wraps, and being buckwheat, completely grain free. It is delicious for savoury meals or sweet treats (strawberry and cream springs to mind).
The recipe is also on my website if you search through the blog posts :)
