I genuinely don’t know if I’m being selfish.
Before I got married, I spent years saving for my house. There were times I went without things I wanted because I had one goal to own a home with my own money.
It wasn’t easy, but I eventually did it. After I got married, my younger brother lost his job. He had a wife and children, and my mother begged me to let them stay in my house temporarily while he got back on his feet.I agreed,We agreed on six months,It has now been two years.
I’ve recently started asking my brother to make arrangements to leave because I need my house back. But instead of understanding, my mother says I’m selfish. She keeps saying, “He’s your brother. Where do you expect him to go?”
What makes the whole situation more frustrating is that my brother isn’t completely helpless. He owns a car that is worth more than the house I struggled for years to buy. He and his wife are also still able to afford other things, but somehow, when it comes to housing, everyone expects me to keep sacrificing.
My husband says my family has taken advantage of the fact that I find it difficult to say no to them. Now I’m torn.
Maybe my brother genuinely needs more time Or maybe two years is already too much.
If you were me, would you ask your brother to leave or give him more time?
