I was called ‘fake life’ for creating AI images.
Sometimes, the thing people laugh at today is the very thing they’ll be asking you to teach them tomorrow.
Early October last year, when AI-generated images were just beginning to gain attention, I remember seeing people create pictures with AI and thinking, “Wait… how are they doing this?” 😂
I was amazed. I was curious. And because I’ve always loved creativity, I decided to try it myself.
Let me tell you, the beginning was not rosy at all.
The apps weren’t as good as they are now, I was still learning, and most of my first attempts looked nothing like what I had imagined in my head. But I kept trying.
Prompt after prompt. Attempt after attempt.
Until one day, I finally got a picture I actually liked.
The joy I felt ehn… 😂
From there, I became hooked.
There was something so fulfilling about typing an idea into a prompt and watching it turn into something beautiful. Those moments were genuinely fun for me.
So I started posting some of my creations on WhatsApp.
At first, nobody even knew they were AI-generated. I was getting beautiful comments and compliments.
Then I announced that they were AI-generated.
Suddenly, the comments changed.
“Oh, you and f@ke life.”
“If you keep doing this, nobody will know the real you.”
“Why are you deceiving people?”
I just smiled and muttered, “Igno~rance.”
Because the truth is, creating a good AI image wasn’t as simple as people thought. It took critical thinking, creativity, multiple prompts, corrections, patience and knowing exactly what you wanted to achieve.
But honestly, those words still got to me.
I won’t lie.
However, they didn’t stop me.
I continued creating behind the scenes because every time I did, I found myself completely lost in that creative world for hours.
And at the time, I was in Law School.
So, for me, it became more than just creating pictures.
It was my little escape.
A safe space where I could forget the stress of Law School for a while, play with ideas and simply create.
Despite the discouraging comments, I kept learning.
Eventually, I started using what I had learned to rebrand my business and explore other opportunities.
And look at us today.
The same AI tools people once called “f@ke life” are now being used by businesses, creators and professionals everywhere. People are learning the tools, building businesses around them and making real money from them.
Funny how things change.
If you’ve read this far, well done. 😂
But this is the real point of my story:
That thing you’re doing today that people think is foo~lish, unnecessary or a waste of time…
Keep doing it.
Learn it. Improve it. Experiment with it. See it through.
You honestly never know what that little thing will become tomorrow.
Not every idea will make sense to people when you first start.
Sometimes, you have to be willing to look “cr@zy” for a while before people understand what you were seeing.
So please, don’t let someone else’s lack of understanding become the reason you abandon something you genuinely love.
Keep creating.
Keep learning.
Keep trying.
Your “foo~lishness” today might just become someone else’s inspiration tomorrow.
Meanwhile…
This is me in different timelines. 😂
People dey create one or two pictures, I don go do overdose.
Happy weekend, everyone
