Akar Lima - Built 25 years ago, the house was a curiosity to the small town of Kulim. Nestled between several seasonal fruit trees planted by our grandfather, the house and the surrounding area was the background of our lives. Like the roots of a tree that grows underground, this house holds us five together. Now, we want to share this life we had with you, our guest. Experience the modern 'kampun
g' life with all the amenities available. Walk through the grounds where if you're lucky enough, pluck rambutans, mangosteens and other fruits from the trees (though please ask first as there are small charges :) Step inside the cool living room where we made our own wooden sitting sofa from our old wooden family house. Taste our special made breakfast in the morning before you start exploring the unique town of Kulim and if you wish, lunch and dinner prepared by the younger 'root'. Our cafe opening times is as follows:
Tuesday - Sunday 12pm - 3pm, 5pm - 10pm (short break in between)

Akar Lima offers breakfast for all guests staying in house. Daily breakfast will vary depending on seasonal produce. Some produce such as vegetables, meat will be sourced from the vegetable gardens and animals reared on site. You can't get any fresher that this. How are we eco and green? We have a long way to go, but as a start we have implemented several eco and green practices:
* Vegetable and fruit garden which will the source of produce for our kitchen (If our stock is not sufficient, local produce will be used in order to minimize our carbon footprint)
* Animals reared for meat and eggs. We currently have chicken and ducks and plan to rear rabbits soon.
* Rainwater catchment system. This source of water is used for watering the garden and cleaning, thus minimizing fresh water usage.
* LED light bulbs or energy saving light bulbs used throughout the establishment. Minimizing power usage
* Solar lights for our compound.
* Reuse/Reclaim of woods, bamboo for furniture and articles throughout Akar Lima
* Recycling of all material that can't be reused such as paper, plastic, glass and metal.
* Reducing the amount of waste, water and power usage, and energy. Akar Lima Cafe is Open! Called 'The Giggling Ducks' , the menu is specially designed and showcase food we grew up with, food we've experienced from all over the world and brought back to Kulim and made it our own by integrating our own twist to it. Akar Lima strives to serve good and healthy food made from the best and freshest produce. This starts by ensuring ingredients are sourced locally, and you can't get more local than picking vegetables and herbs from our own garden and using fresh duck eggs. Our kitchen will also be able to cater for functions and events. Please ask us and we can help to arrange and organize a unique and memorable event for you.
