Why does 3pm feel like your body just gave up?

You had breakfast. You had lunch. You slept last night. So why does your energy drop off a cliff around 3pm every single day?

It's not laziness. It's biology.

Your body runs on a natural energy cycle called the circadian rhythm. Cortisol — the hormone that keeps you alert — peaks in the morning and drops throughout the day. By mid-afternoon, cortisol is at one of its lowest points. At the same time, adenosine (the sleepy chemical) has been building up in your system since you woke up.

Low alertness hormone, high sleepy hormone, right around 3pm. That's your crash.
