Café de Nayarit es orgullosamente el de la casa 🤎
NAYARIT JUST PUT MEXICO'S BEST-KEPT COFFEE SECRET ON THE MAP — AND BROKE A WORLD RECORD DOING IT.
Tucked in misty mountain ranges between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre, the coffee farmers of Nayarit have been quietly growing something extraordinary for generations. The world just finally noticed.
TWO massive things happened this week:
1. The Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI) officially awarded Nayarit the "Cafe Nayarit" Denomination of Origin — the same elite legal protection that guards Champagne, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Tequila. Nayarit joins only a handful of Mexican states holding this distinction for coffee.
2. Nayarit broke a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD by gathering 1,000+ people in the world's largest coffee history masterclass — verified by international Guinness inspectors on the spot.
WHY IS CAFE NAYARIT SO SPECIAL?
It's the perfect storm: high-altitude terrain + Pacific sea breeze + volcanic soil + generations of indigenous farming wisdom. The arabica beans from this region contain 15-17% oil content — giving them a uniquely soft, aromatic, and complex flavor. Three traditional methods are used: washed, natural dry, and honey process, each adding different layers of taste.
As Nayarit's Secretary of Economy said: "The secret touch, as the grandmothers say, is the love of our producers."
The protected zone covers the municipalities of Xalisco, San Blas, Ruiz, and Compostela — 2,367 producers across 14,000 certified hectares. In 2025, they produced nearly 10,000 tonnes of coffee cherries. Their beans are already reaching shelves in Dubai and Washington D.C.
What this Denomination of Origin (D.O.P.) means for these families:
— No one can fake or copy the "Cafe Nayarit" name
— Farmers earn premium pricing in global specialty markets
— Hundreds of rural families gain long-term economic protection
— A coffee culture that was hidden in the mountains finally has a global identity
This isn't just a coffee story. It's a story about a community that refused to be overlooked — and finally got the recognition they always deserved.
