In every piece of cacao there is life, death, and resurrection.

The ancient Maya origin of Cacao—

Hunaphu lost a ball game, deceived by the lords of Xibalba. The Maya underworld. In a dramatic display of power, Hun Hunaphu’s head is hung on the branch of a barren, dried-up, tree. As the hero’s life force flowed down the bark, the tree burst to life, growing these strange, skin-toned, heavy pods. And so, his two sons, the hero twins Hunaphu and Xbalanque, defeated the lords of Xibalba in battle out of devotion to bury their father. From his head then sprouted Maize. The tree, now the sacred Cacao.

At NAAWA, each creation has our passion and creativity poured onto it. This way we bring life to every item we offer.
