Sometimes, life doesn't go the way you planned. Sometimes, there are so many obstacles in the way of your hopes and dreams. Not pebbles in the road, large boulders. After one or two, you can push them aside and still have enough energy to continue. But when it's 10, 20, 100 boulders, eventually, you get tired. It's become too much. And up ahead? A road full of more boulders.
Opening a business in Mexico has a lot of boulders in the road. And then there's a food business, with the constant need for replenishing, and Mexico, with the constant game of one week an item being there, the next, it's not. It takes more time, money, and energy than I ever imagined.
On that note, I'm sad to say that we are closing the doors of Cafe Martin. What does that mean? The actual location will be closed down by November 30th. We will be going back to delivery only. We will be revamping the menu, adding items that we know people want ('breakfast pack' 6 bagels and herb and garlic cream cheese), and a few others. We will also be promoting our gluten-free food, which I am asked for weekly, not just by our friend John, but numerous others. We will also provide more home-made meals for those long staying tourists or locals, like we did for Denise and her family when they were here, and like we do for our friend Lorraine every week. Something a little better than just pizza in the freezer.
We have loved getting to know so many of you. So many have been there since the very beginning. Dayna, who was one of our first Canadian friends who found us out of the blue. Shauna, who brought her crew to our store and since then, I've had numerous people in Canada phone and say they watched it and many who have searched us out just because of that. Gladys, who brought in a new friend every week. Barry, my Toronto friend, who walked in at the beginning and had me me missing home within a few minutes. And then there's my uber-regulars: Dan & Jackie who I miss dearly and would probably order food and get it shipped to them in Canada if they could; Tammy, who comes in, I think, every single day; and Tristan, who still comes even when I can't find her half-and-half anywhere in town. These faithful, loyal people who have encouraged me and made me enjoy managing a little cafe in the lost roads of Ejido.
And I must mention Anna C. If it wasn't for her, I might have given up long ago. She's the best employee anybody can ask for: reliable, hard-working, loyal, trustworthy. I will miss seeing her every day and sipping on my iced coffee while we discuss food, the shop, and of course, life. Love you Anna.
We will, of course, keep you updated via Facebook about what we continue to make and deliver. We will be updating our website next week so that it's clear what you can order.
Hope to see you in the shop this week and if not, for sure we will see you when we deliver to your door! Thank you everyone.
