We had a great time in Tepic at Nana’s House yesterday. It was a long day but a fun and interesting one!
Thanks to Mary Jo Hansen, the director of Nana’s House for arranging the tour in Tepic of the current house as well as the new construction that is taking place.
Nana’s House is a safe and loving environment for children and offers hope for the future by providing a quality education as well as vocational skills taught at a local technical college. In this way the children will always have marketable skills such as cooking, sewing, welding or mechanics to use throughout their life. Yesterday we were able to see the small coffee shop that the older children in high school and university run and work in so that they may gain work experience and earn their own money to gain financial freedom. We also were able to sample the delicious baking and cooking skills of a few of the girls who were kind enough to make lunch for our group!
Nana’s House is currently building a new building to house the girls and will begin working on a new house for the boys. The government of Nayarit did provide the land but all of the funding to build and run this amazing organization is only possible because of the generous donations from all of you. The hope they provide to the children that they house and care for as well as the community outreach programs that they run are making a dramatic difference in people’s lives.
I have heard from a few people that they do not want to support Nana’s House because it is not in Bucerias. To that I would like to say that Nana’s House in Tepic accepts neglected children from all over the state and currently has 3 children from Bucerias. These kids are not “Monday to Friday” orphans who have family they can visit on the weekend. These kid’s “families” (and I use that term very loosely!) severely abused these kids mentally, physically and in some cases sexually and Nana’s House, their staff and volunteers are giving them a future they never knew that they could have. That to me is far more important than the area that they were abandoned in. The need to help is bigger than Bucerias and I hope that people realize that together we can make a difference locally in Bucerias and that by providing hope to children for a better future we can help change the world.
I would like to thanks all those that came with us yesterday to Tepic. It was a great day of fun and friendship and I hope that we can organize another trip up there in the future.
I have attached some pictures from yesterday as well as a link where you can donate to Nana’s House. An ongoing donation of $30 per month helps to feed one child at Nana’s House.
Thanks again to Bucerias for all,of the support you provide to the community!
