We were honoured to welcome the Embassy of Iceland to Matenda Coffee Farm in Nkhata Bay ☕🌿 as part of a monitoring mission under the Sustainable Development Partnership Fund, funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.
We were pleased to welcom Svanhvít Aðalsteinsdóttir, Director within the Office of Development Cooperation at the Ministry, who visited together with the Embassy team to review progress, discuss implementation, and observe expansion activities supported through the project “Putting Malawian Coffee on the Map,” implemented in cooperation with Warm Hearth ehf.
Our farm was established in 2014 in Usingini, Nkhata Bay, building on a long-standing family tradition of coffee cultivation dating back to the early 1950s.
While our operations were well established prior to the grant, the support has created additional opportunities for expansion, improved production, and strengthened collaboration with smallholder farmers.
The farm produces and sells Viphya Highlands Coffee, contributing to the development of Malawi’s coffee sector.
Through this initiative, we continue working toward positioning Malawi as a recognised global coffee brand — showcasing our capacity to produce and market high-quality coffee that can compete regionally, while ensuring sustainability, quality, gender equality, social impact, and environmental conservation remain at the core of our growth.
