The sound of Royal Island? Birds, everywhere. 🐦🌴

Grey herons (maakana) by the shore, white terns flying overhead, little birds singing in the gardens and parrots calling from the palms.

Mornings are especially lovely here in Baa Atoll, where birdsong is as much a part of island life as the sound of the waves.

It’s Global Bird Weekend, and we’re celebrating one of Royal Island’s biggest personalities. 🦜💙

Meet Rio, our resident blue-and-yellow macaw and something of an island celebrity!

You’ll usually find him with his tribe at Q Adventure Watersports, right by the beach, chatting away and greeting guests. If you’ve visited Royal Island, chances are you know him already!

Today, we’re celebrating Rio and all the feathered residents and migratory visitors that make their way to our little corner of Baa Atoll. 🌴

A good spa should make you forget what time it is.

At Araamu Spa, Royal Island, that happens pretty quickly. It sits deep in the island greenery, with dark timber, running water, flowers and treatment rooms that feel completely cut off from everything else.

A few from the menu worth knowing:

🌿 Back to Roots is the signature ritual, with island-leaf smudging, sand and coconut milk poultice therapy, bamboo massage and a herbal bath to finish.

🥥 Exotic Cocoon is the tropical one, with coffee and coconut scrub, coconut yoghurt wrap and a scalp massage.

🎋 Voyager is for tired shoulders and serious tension, with deep tissue work, stretching and bamboo techniques.

💧 Shirodhara is the one for switching your mind off, ending with warm herbal oil poured slowly over the forehead.

Our recommendation? Book it for the afternoon and leave the rest of the day empty.
