We are a farm-to-table restaurant passionate about using locally produced ingredients and supporting organic farming in Myanmar.
We believe we all have a role to play in creating a better world and combating issues such as waste and climate change. At Parasol we focus on several initiatives under the titles of Food, Sustainability and Community.
We promote using only local products to cut down on transport emissions, keep money within the community and celebrate what is available.
Small Suppliers
We support were it matters, with money going to those that will send it back on the local community, local jobs to continue growing a local, sustainable economy.
Organic, Sustainable Methods
We support farmers that use environmentally friendly practices and support the organic movement in Myanmar.
Seasonal Menus
We change our menus seasonally to showcase and connect our diners to nature and to avoid the use of intensive practices that out of season crops require.
Plastic Free
We monitor our own single-use plastic waste in the kitchen, bar and even by our staff. We do use plastic straws and do not sell plastic bottles but a refill station and free water are readily available. Our staff use reusable bags for any shopping and tiffins for shared lunches. We also use Hapbee Wraps Beeswax wraps in our kitchen as an alternative to cling film.
Food Waste Seperation
We prevent food waste going to landfill and pay for the service of it being collected and processed by Kokkoya Organics who turn it into compost to grow more plants.
Worm Farm
We try to close the loop as close to our restaurant as possible and so also send some food waste to our worm farm in our garden. They especially enjoy our coffee grounds and vegetable peelings.
Recycling
We recognise the local recycling system and assist by separating and cleaning all recyclable items. Non-recyclables such as foreign glass bottles are cut to be reused as our table water glasses.
Long Table Dinners
We love hosting these monthly dinners to showcase the season, our local producers and to bring people together in a relaxed setting. They are the perfect vehicle to connect people to food and where it comes from.
Community Space
We provide a friendly, supportive and inclusive space for communities to come together to celebrate, fundraise and socialise.
Local Music
We provide a space and support local musicians with monthly music nights.
Garden Space
We have a small garden space that supports the kitchen with herbs and garnishes. We hope to have kids gardening classes in the future.
Team Care
We build a friendly, supportive and inclusive space for the Parasol Team to grow, learn and be challenged. We encourage them to understand the greater issues we are all facing and to play a role in our own goals through customer education.
Guest Education
We have created an environment where customers feel relaxed and are gently introduced to the ideas of sustainability, local food and plastic free through our menu and events.
Thank you for reading and we hope to feed you soon in our garden. xx
